Dr Joshua Matanzima is an anthropologist and historian by training. He is currently a Research Officer at the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining, Sustainable Minerals Institute, The University of Queensland, Australia. His research examines the sociocultural impacts associated with mining across the project lifecycle, from exploration through to mine closure, as well as the development of renewable energy technologies in historic landscapes, particularly those associated with abandoned or closed mines. His work explores how these processes unfold across diverse geographical contexts, with a particular focus on Africa, Australia, and Germany. He has a strong interest in comparative analyses that bring these three distinct settings into conversation. His research has been published in leading international journals, including Resources Policy, Energy Research & Social Science, and The Extractive Industries and Society.
A warm welcome to the Centre, Joshua!
