My research studies the intersection of technology and emotion and the way interaction with technological objects shapes our self-image. My current work concerns the “outsourcing” of conscience and awareness that is an inevitable side-effect of our reliance on increasingly capable and autonomous technologies. It seeks to develop alternatives to the fixation on individual agency and the thinking and feeling “I” that are central to traditional Western conceptions of politics and ethics.

Chris Müller is a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies and Media at the Macquarie University Sydney.
