We are pleased to announce that the 3rd volume of our book series "Futures of Sustainability" has been published by Campus:
Frank Adloff/Tanja Busse (eds.): Welche Rechte braucht die Natur? Wege aus dem Artensterben (Link)
One million species are threatened with extinction in the next few years. Existing laws do not sufficiently protect nature's biodiversity. Can the protection of biodiversity be legally enforced? The idea of a right of action for animals and ecosystems was developed decades ago. Some lawyers are currently calling for the concept of "nature as a legal entity". Is such a further development of European law possible and can it protect biodiversity? The authors bring together insights from biology, social sciences and law: What do socio-ecological examples look like in which biodiversity and human resource use do not compete with each other? What would be the social consequences if rights of nature were recognized?
