New Fellow: Katharina Block

In March, Prof. Dr. Katharina Block will be a visiting scholar at the Centre. Katharina Block, born in 1981, is an assistant professor of social theory at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg as well as a fellow at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg and an associated researcher at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin. In 2015, she received her doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on the concept of world in environmental sociology based on the theory of science. After a subsequent research fellowship at the Human Dynamics Centre (University of Würzburg), she also taught at Leibniz Universität Hannover. Her research interests include social theory, philosophical anthropology, phenomenology, sociology of ecologization, and sociology of digitalization. Her current work includes the concept of the Anthropocene, the planetary dimension of social order formation processes, and a cross-species concept of care to describe ecological relationships.
