Neuer Gastwissenschaftler: Andrew Stirling

From January until February 2023 Prof. Andrew Stirling, PhD, will be a fellow at the Centre. Andy Stirling is Professor of Science and Technology Policy at the Science Policy Research Unit in the Business School of the University of Sussex, where for 16 years he co-directed the ESRC STEPS Centre.
Focusing especially on issues of power, uncertainty and diversity in science and society, he’s served on UK and EU governmental regulatory bodies on energy policy, toxic substances, GM Crops, science advice and public engagement. Andy has worked with a variety of civil society organisations as well as commercial firms, including on the boards of Greenpeace UK and Greenpeace International. He has also served as an advisor for the Royal Society, Nuffield Council and European Science Foundation, UK Committee on Radioactive Waste Management and Canadian Nuclear Waste Management Organisation. A fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences, Andy was a member of the ESRC Research Committee and the sociology sub-panel of the 2021 UK ‘Research Excellence Framework’. He is a lead author in the UN IPBES conservation assessment.
