Norbert Ebert is a Sociologist at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. His work is grounded in the critical sociology tradition of the Budapest School, which explores the negotiation and (dis)satisfaction of needs as a framework for analyzing contemporary social, economic and political processes. This perspective shapes Norbert’s focus on conflicts related to the distribution of power, recognition and resources, as well as the complex and increasingly paradoxical social structures that arise from the ‘(de)politicization of needs’. Currently he is researching the paradoxical nature of the gig-economy, particularly the polarization between precarious work and wealth. His recent work has engaged with topics such as technological unemployment, precarious work societies and the consequences of practices of private equity firms. In Australia, Norbert collaborates closely with the journals Thesis Eleven and The Economic and Labour Relations Review. He is affiliated to the Centre via Sighard Neckel ´s Chair for Society and Social Change.
Welcome to Hamburg, Norbert!
