I joined the University of Hamburg in 2017 as Assistant Professor of Sociology, and was appointed to the Mercator Chair of Sociology in 2023. My research and teaching examine how ecological crises are scientifically interpreted and politically governed, how they trigger social conflicts and societal transformations, and how new forms of coordination emerge across actors, governance levels, and forms of authority. Empirically, my work focuses on global climate governance, energy transformations, and the institutionalization of planetary boundaries in areas such as finance and law.
